The National Consumer Law Center (NCLC) bills itself as the "nation's consumer law expert" and provides many useful tips for non-lawyer consumers. The NCLC offers information and advice on many consumer issues, including bankruptcy, debt collection abuse, payday loans, and others. The Center also administers the "Seniors' Initiative" of the Federal Older Americans' Act, a program designed to improve the quality and accessibility of legal assistance for vulnerable older Americans with consumer problems.

The Senior's Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP) answers questions and counsels senior citizens about Medicare, Medicare supplements, Medicare+Choice, long-term care insurance and other health insurance concerns. The program was created in 1986 by North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Jim Long, and has become an important link between senior citizens and information about their health insurance.
