Watauga County Comprehensive Transportation Plan
Watauga County and the Towns of Beech Mountain, Blowing Rock, Boone, and Seven Devils working in coordination with the High Country Council of Governments, and NCDOT’s Transportation Planning Branch have been working since September, 2010 to develop a Comprehensive Transportation Plan (CTP) for Watauga County. A steering committee comprised of planning staff and elected officials from the county and municipal governments along with representatives from ASU, AppalCART, the Blue Ridge Conservancy, Chamber or Commerce, and NCDOT developed the draft reccomendations for the plan. During the CTP process, the county’s future transportation network was studied to determine future deficiencies and recommended improvements.
Comprehensive Transportation Plans are comprised of the following:
1) They are multimodal and are consist of four maps:Highway (Broken into categories: Freeways, Expressways, Boulevards, Other Major Thoroughfares and Minor Thoroughfares (Based on how a facility functions)
Public Transportation and Rail
2) They provide recommendations which include:Review of existing conditions and facilities, identification of what needs improvement, and the type of improvements
There will also be a public workshop on November 8, 2012 from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM at the High Country Council of Governments, 468 New Market Blvd in Boone, for those who wish to submit comments at that time.After reviewing the draft plan, please submit comments by completing a short survey at www.surveymonkey.com/s/WataugaCountyCTPRec .
