The High Country Employability Certification Competencies

In order to meet the needs of employers in High Country, we will develop a list of competencies that, upon mastery, indicate that the job-seeker has demonstrated basic workplace readiness

Each entity that facilitates and instructs this class will develop specific competencies to ensure that only students who demonstrate mastery will receive certification. Each classroom curriculum, agenda, processes, and specific measures must be submitted to the Youth Council for approval.

Personal Qualities

1. Attitude – Demonstrates a positive attitude constantly in all that is said and done throughout the course of the class
2. Personal Appearance and Hygiene – Dresses appropriately for class in a clean and neat manner
3. Responsibility – Completes all tasks effectively and within a timely manner
4. Self-Management – Exhibits self control and responds to feedback unemotionally and non-defensively
5. Dependability – Present for all required class meetings and is in the classroom before class begins and back from break before assigned time
6. Initiative – Begins and follows through energetically with a plan or task (i.e. "self-starter")

Communication Skills

7. Listening – Receives and responds to all verbal messages and other clues
8. Speaking – Organizes ideas, speaks clearly and asks appropriate questions
9. Non-Verbal – Communicates appropriately in class

Interpersonal Skills

10. Participates as a team member – Works cooperatively with others and contributes to the class with ideas and suggestions
11. Leadership – Demonstrates by teaching, guiding, and helping others

Thinking Skills

12. Decision making – Makes decisions independently
13. Problem-solving – Identifies and solve work related problems
